Predator Free Tamahere Project Area

The Predator Free Tamahere project spans Tamahere’s gullies, reserves, and Waikato river edge, linking pest control efforts from Predator Free Cambridge to the south, Predator Free Mystery Creek to the west, and Riverlea Environment Society and Friends of Mangaonua to the north.

We partner with Ngāti Hauā as manu whenua to uphold kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of the land. Our initial focus is on the Tamahere gully systems east of the Waikato Expressway, including Mangaharakeke, Putaorangihoko, Mangaone, and Mangaomapu streams. By targeting pests in these key habitats, we aim to protect native wildlife, including endangered long-tailed bats.

Working with strategic partners and neighbouring initiatives, our goal is to foster a thriving, biodiverse ecosystem for future generations.
