Give-A-Trap Boost

More good news – we’ve been really fortunate to receive a couple of Flipping Timmy possum traps and a BT200 rat/stoat trap, thanks to generous anonymous donors and Give A Trap. Thank you whoever you are!

These traps really help our ongoing mission to remove pests from the Tamahere gullies. The support from these awesome donors is a real boost, and we love how simple it is – we get an email alert of another donation and then a trap shows up in the mail - how cool is that?

We love the thoughtful extra bits and pieces from the deadrat trap supplier to help supercharge our trapping efforts too. Check out their website for a great range of trap supplies.

We’re also intrigued by the latest BT200 rat/stoat trap design from another first-rate trap supplier, traps.co.nz with its small smooth edge tunnel side-entrance, rather than the more traditional gap opening in the end mesh, which can snag a pest and make them trap-shy forever - can’t wait to see how this performs in the wild.

And, in case you don’t know the backstory to Give a Trap, every time one of th parcels arrives, it's a lovely reminder of the amazing Penny Willcocks and her family. Penny, a nature-loving tramper, decided to bequeath money to predator-free groups when she found out about her terminal cancer. Her family and friends set up Give a Trap® to fulfil her wish, a platform they generously handed over to Forest & Bird in 2023. Now, people from all over the world can buy and donate much-needed traps to trapping groups all over Aotearoa New Zealand. Give a Trap makes sure each trap goes straight to the donor's chosen group, and you get updates on the trapping program you've supported. It's a fantastic legacy, and we're super thankful to be part of this initiative and for this support. THANK YOU!
